Application FAQ

Q: What is Certified Wildlife Friendly™?
Certified Wildlife Friendly™ is based on the principles of Wildlife Conservation, Economic Well-Being and Accountability. By recognizing products that meet WFEN principles and certification criteria, Certified Wildlife Friendly™ showcases production practices that allow people and wildlife to coexist and thrive.

Q: How do I apply?
The first step in the application process is submission of a Pre-Assessment Form, which is geared to provide background about a product and its conservation mission. The Wildlife Friendly Enterprise Network considers the following factors in its pre-assessment to determine the likelihood of product eligibility for Wildlife Friendly Certification:

  • Direct contribution to in situ conservation of key species.
  • Positive impact on the local economy.
  • Participation of individuals or communities sharing their land with wildlife during the production, harvest, processing, or manufacture of the product.
  • Protection of key wildlife through a clear enforcement mechanism.
  • Monitoring the impact of production on wildlife.

Q: Wildlife Friendly helps to protect "key species". How is this defined?
A key species is any terrestrial plant or animal species defined by the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species as critically endangered, endangered, or vulnerable. Further, because many additional species face context-specific threats, WFEN includes products that confer protection on other species of concern on a case by case basis.

Q: Can I apply online?
At this time, WFEN is not accepting online applications. If you believe your product satisfies the WFEN certification criteria and would like to submit a product for review, please contact us to request a Pre-Assessment Form.

Q: Is there an application fee?
No fee is required to submit a Pre-Assessment Form. When WFEN requests a Full Application from an applicant, we require a non-refundable $100 fee.
